Discover spiritual Japan : Kimiidera Temple  –  Wakayama

In the Wakayama region,  Kiimedera Temple  is a jewel of Japanese Buddhist architecture. Founded in 770, it stands out for its bright red façade, which contrasts beautifully with its lush surroundings. This temple is renowned for its early-blooming cherry trees, which create an enchanting spectacle in spring. It also houses an impressive golden statue of the eleven-faced deity Kannon, a National Cultural Property. The temple also offers breathtaking panoramic views of Wakanoura Bay from its heights. Kimiidera is also the second temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, an iconic Japanese initiation route.

Doro Hotel : a balcony overlooking the Dorokyo Gorge  –  Nara

Nestled in southern Nara Prefecture’s Totsukawa region, a land of misty mountains and hot springs, Hotel Doro overlooks the emerald waters of Dorokyo Gorge. Nestled between steep, vegetation-covered cliffs, this ryokan, built in the 1920s, exudes the charm of another era.

Although it no longer operates as a hotel, it continues to be an essential stop for lunch or to enjoy a green tea while admiring the panorama.

Comprised of the prefectures of Wakayama, Nara, and Mie, the Kii Peninsula is a spiritual center, considered the cultural cradle of Japan. It includes sacred sites such as Mount Koya and Ise Shrine, linked on both sides by the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This region offers majestic landscapes of misty mountains, dense forests, and winding gorges, with a rich and varied coastline. Its Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, as well as its ancient traditions, attract visitors from around the world in search of spirituality and authenticity .
